The British Museum is the first national public museum of the world.
It is unique in bringing together the cultures of the world under one roof, spanning continents and oceans. Its eight million objects allow us to explore the extraordinary diversity of human cultures and to realise how closely they are interconnected.
Enlightenment ideals and values - critical scrutiny of all assumptions, open debate, scientific research, progress and tolerance - have marked the Museum since its foundation.
These values apply to this channel, where live-steams and recordings of past events at the Museum can be found.

How ironic that the stolen Hindu Lord Nataraja statue, who is considered to be the God of Dance, is in the background at 0.55. There are many other Hindu and Buddhist statues stolen from India shown in this video. All of these dances were wonderful, but the Kuchipudi (dancer on the plate) is very challenging
I sometime wonder how SHAMELESS these Western countries are that even after looting and killings Millions of people in INDIA and Africa these Western countries will preach democracy, Humans rights and calls themselves the Garden of the World and guardian of human rights and democracy . how do they even look themselves in the mirror
If Britisher had fought and won these artifacts from us then I would have accepted it, but British looted from us and they did not just looted our monetary wealth but the most painful thing they did with us was by propagating Aryan Invasion theory and politically engineering the CASTE system of India which still today we are suffering and will suffer forever. Still even after killing Millions of Indians and looting everything from INDIA and proudly showing these looted artifacts in their museum still the Word SORRY is so costly for British or maybe British have to steal the word SORRY from some other country .
I'm Indian. As a kid, I thought that the Indian classical dances are so 'boring' and 'unexciting'. Growing up, I realised I was extremely brainwashed by the Western propaganda because of the British colonial mindest that some Indians, sadly, carry till date. That sentiment made me feel so guilty for carrying the inferiority complex and internalized racism for so long, and for thinking lowly about my own culture, heritage and traditions. As a grownup now, who is learning Bharatnatyam (the dance which the first lady performed, her name is Suhani Dhanki) I am mesmerized watching this video. Never realised when these 28 minutes went away.
everyone here blaming the British Museum for stealing artifacts, if they didn't they would destroyed by ignorant Muslim rulers.
❤lovley 😍😍😍😍mind blowing and heart touching
Concert in chor bazaar
Dance is lovely not in thé muséum 😂
Thanks a lot for prying/pleasing our God. Represents beautiful dance with beautiful expression. Only we can feel thy not just stachyu like others thinking but living god & goddess that we love & belive . You all are so brave just seeing them in mausoleum feel heart its not a playthings or dead place it not good place for them. Any way thanks to not destroying & preserve them. I feel so happy to see you are representing our one of most beautiful way of offering our feelings including love, sadness, happiness, anger, thankfulness to God. Both happiness & sadness presents together in my heart but i am happy & proud more due to you all did awesome.
The selective assessment in women yogis or yoginis. When you didn't find women Hatha yoga posture evidence then it isn't out there. Yogi or yoginis aren't only who do asana. That is the problem when west comes and do selective academic research and zero understanding of culture and experiential knowledge
Всё, что британцы украли в Индии нужно вернуть в Индию.
shame on the British for what they did to the noble, incredible Indian people. India was the Golden Bird - the richest country on earth in nominal wealth, and richest in spirituality and arts, giving birth to many major religions and schools of thought., Britain came in like savages with their guns and wreaked havoc on India. 45 Trillion looted, millions left to die in man made famines, treated worse than dogs. Its amazing how India came back and kept their dignity, they didnt look for revenge or waste their energy being angry like Black Americans in America or middle easterners have with their issues. Indians are the most resilient and enterprising people in the world. Im sad that my ancestors went through all that, and I hope the descendents of those who did those crimes against Humanity reap their karma one day. Karma being a Hindu concept by the way. Bless the eternal Dharmic people. Gods favourities... Shame on Britain and those who tried to make Hindus go extinct.
Isn't the irony that all the research is done by Britishers using the resources looted from ancient India including more than 70% evidences presented here are part of Britsh museum, library or archival.
Just wonderful. Thank you British Museum for bringing history to life. ❤
👏👏 They are the messengers of our classical dance forms; but it should have been held in an Auditorium, as this venue with too many pillars, prevents people from watching it properly.
Anything they need to steal from us and then try to sell it back to us…. If you know, you know. Look up the History before coming for me😂
Along with the dances the music is also exquisite, especially the one that accompanies that Kuchipudi.
Oh my mother india 👈Britain will never be happy with this stolen things, god will punish Britain thief country
literally godess
British Bloody Thieves
i have never heard a explanation of what the wrist watch item reall y is.. does anyone know what it is ?
A dance to the Hindu god
Emperor Caracalla in 212AD (I believe) granted full citizenship to all free people living in the Roman Empire, so after this date it was incorrect to distinguish between "Britons" and "Romans" but perhaps a line would have been drawn between literate, propertied Romans and the lower classes, who would have had fewer resources to defend their rights, example right to trial or appeal to the emperor before being sentenced to execution or "bloodied by rods".
It starts at 06:30
Loot Museum of Britain!👿
Britishers couldn't steal the art of dance and music so they banned it.
It’s nice to have ordinary people see some real and beautiful culture!! Most British and western cultures need to learn the importance of rich traditional culture. They need to explore their ancestory and go back to their roots. They are lost sheep without it.
Nice to hear a post-colonial/ non-Roman point of view.
just.... this is not really new - I come from a frontier region of the Roman Empire. I also really dislike the "ooh, everybody loves the Romans and does not think about the atrocities..." vibe. History is complex. (plus I really hate the colonialism thing because applying it to maths and physics is quite en vogue with a certain group - maths cares not about where an idea comes from, just that it is correct!)
Very enjoyable. It’s nice to be able to listen again as heavy with information. Thank you
Superb introduction to the exhibition. Thank you.
she is incredible and so skillful and knowledgeable on the mounting and conservation process. Must have worked very hard

See their stares awesome !
👍
Bharatha nattiyam ❤ from tamilnadu
I find traditional Indian dance, being performed in a British museum filled with treasures and history stolen by the British during the colonial overtaking of the sovereign nation of India, one of the most offensive things I’ve ever seen.
The people who called these dances vulgar are looking at them with awe. Proud of my culture.
I am disgusted.
If Britishers could loot our dance culture than they would have also stole it 😃
but they couldn’t steal it so they banned it instead 😂
British implemented Final Solution on India, just like Hitler implemented Final Solution on Jews.
Lo mejor de la India 🙏🙏🙏
I came across this presentation only today. The artists have done a great job. But someone mentioned the setting is a bit unconventional, does not evoke the spirit as a presentation on a temple premises. Someone else also mentioned about returning the items to India. That is a nice thought. However, let's not forget how our people ruined Salar Jung Museum in Hyderabad. Rumor is several board members moved some of the items to their homes. Not that I am against have the valuable items back to India. Just a thought. For those who can read Telugu, Sri Munipalle Raju has written a story veerakumkuma on this topic.
Absolutely 💯 stunning. Sad to see them performing restricted by the seats and exhibits. Don't Artists need a stage to perform?
Utterly beautiful!❤
My mind is already building a movie concept where a troupe of dancers go to the british museum to perform, but actually it's a heist to steal their artefacts back.
In 1910 Britishers banned Temple dancing in India claiming that it encourages prostitution and is seductive. Very ironic to see our own culture which was once banned is now performing at the british museum.
World class Indianess starts @ 4:53
